Catalina Catamaran Cruise

April 7-8-9, 2025

A great opportunity to learn all the systems of a big cat charter boat.

We've all dreamed of dropping anchor just off a sugar sand BVI beach,

dinghy ashore to explore and

watch the sun sink into the ocean.

This may be your last chance to get certified on a big cat, and finally pull the trigger on getting squared away for that dream vacation..

Close and affordable, sailing a catamaran to Catalina Island.

Little known treasure on Catalina Island

Join us on April 7-8-9, 2025, and sail with us on a 45' cat, while learning how to conduct a boat systems pre-sail checkout, discuss dissembark proceedures, understand right-of-way, bring up navigation instruments, waypoint navigation, A.I.S. familiarization, tacking and jibing, MOB recovery, picking up a mooring ball, auto pilot and much more. Certification is available for those who want to learn and successfully complete the course. And this is a great way to log some "days at sea" in your logbooks. If you're working on your SLC license, this is a great oppourtunity to check off a few more boxes.

Interesting sailing factoid.

The venerable TRANSPAC RACE begins in Los Angeles

(Long Beach, more specifically and Rainbow Harbor to be historically exact).

Since knowledge is power, you may find this usefull at some point.

Friends of DeWitt Smith (of which there are many) may want to read this.

You may or may not be aware of my wife (Deb) recent medical procedures; an extended hospitalization, every-other-day out-patient treatments, and an extended recovery time line to cure a fairly rare blood disease.  This began in December 2024 and will continue until Mother’s Day weekend 2025 and perhaps beyond.  As her 24/7 sole caregiver, I’m very limited as to exposure to any source of pathogens that might put her at risk during her rebuilding of her immune system.  I’ve specifically asked and been told that it is not recommended that I come in contact with any large groups, especially those with children as they are prone to be disease vectors.

I can’t express enough how disappointed I am to not be able to share “Wind in my Sails” with kids this year. It’s only exceeded by my desire for my wife’s full recovery.  I don’t know if Joe Devereaux, Dan Maker, Brenden Taylor or any of the other Utah Lake sailors who’ve worked with the Sea Scouts (youth groups), would be interested or able to help with teaching about the sailing opportunities on Utah Lake, but I’d be willing to help recruit someone…   Most, of course, “have day jobs” and so that makes finding someone more difficult.  Do we know of any college students, spouses, retirees, etc., that could be free the weekday times of the field trips?  I’d be glad to do footwork/phone calling/emailing to help find someone.

Thanks for your prayers and well wishes.  Weathering a challenging health condition is made so much better with support of friends (as each of you know!) and I truly appreciate each of you.

Signed, DeWitt
