Last Winter Sailing Seminar, 2024. Rusty Buster offered.

Used to be called the Utah Lake Commission...

now the Utah Lake Authority

Sam Braegger, Utah Lake Authority Deputy Director (in blue shirt), sits beside the newly appointed Executive Director, Luke Peterson, in a recent ULA meeting. Sam, who has a great read on the pulse of projects, histories and lake influencers, will share his insights into "what's happining" down at the lake, this Thursday evening.

Last Winter Sailing Seminar

Thursday, March 7, 7:00 PM

Provo Marina

4440 W. Center, Provo

This week will be our last sailing seminar of the season. Thank you to all who have joined us. We have had a great turnout of sailors and friends listening and learning from our presenters. This week we will have Sam Braegger from the Utah Lake Authority teaching us all about what is happening with our lake this year.  We will also talk about the Utah Lake Regatta, summer sailstice, monthly sailouts, and a few fun challenges we have on going on the lake. Come with any questions or improvements you would like to see happen in our sailing community.

A very sincere thank you is extended to Melanie Evans for securing the conferance room, scheduling presenters, getting the word out, baking treats and pulling M.C. duty. Not to mention that long drive down and back to Bountiful, in the dark.

As you can see (bottom right corner), Utah Lake water level is looking better than normal. One foot above compromise (normal).

Due to the many requests we have been recieving, to offer "racing classes" on Bonneville's Olson 30, we need to have a more tangible model to work with. Please contact us if you would like to have a racing experience aboard a purpose built racing boat, conceived by George Olson, in 1978, to sail the historic Long Beach to Hawaii Transpac (don't forget full screen). Think how this class will look on your sailing resume. This offering will only last as long as we have this kind of water in Utah Lake.

Please e-mail us you desire to participate in this unusual/rare oppourtunity to stretch your sailing skills.

Known as "Giant Killers" (because they consistantly out-perform larger boats), an O30 can easily accelerate into double figures making for an exhilarating ride.

Starts, course tactics, crew weight distribution, sail trim, heavy weather, light winds, spinnaker, reading the wind, buoy racing and turns, when to come about (tack/jibe), trash talking (psych-outs), penalty turns, right of way, basic racing rules, covering, eye-of-the-tiger, finishing.

If you think racing on this boat is fun...

YOUR WRONG!

(it's incredible!)

Please let us know if you are interested in Bonneville's Olson 30 Racing Course.

We are looking at mid-summer as a launch date.

Only your interest will get this boat back in the water.

Your e-mail will help to bring back this impressive boat, to once again ply the waters of Utah Lake.

Thank you for your supporting interest.
