Self inflating PFD's have a problem.

Auto-Inflateable PFD's

What kind of PFD are you wearing? Pull out your warranty information, and study it good. I'm seeing 2 years before "re-arming" for todays PFD's. Because the "bobbin" which disintegrates when exposed to a dunking (moisture), can be compromised in humid environments. We've had a recent rash of self-inflating PFD's that have done just that. Inflating overnight while safely stowed down below in the boat.

Automatic Inflatable

"Designed to automatically inflate when immersed in water and won’t prematurely inflate due to rain or humidity. ( I beg to differ ) These versatile life jackets easily convert to manual inflation by pulling the attached T-cord".

"You will want to visually inspect your life jacket for leaks or tears every few months and service the automatic inflator every two years. After inflation or if expired, rearm your life jacket with an Inflatable PFD Rearming Kit (sold separately)".

They're not  kidding when thay say service (which means replace) the re-arming "bobbin" every 2 years. Our PFD's that just self inflated (without going in the water) were barely 3 years old.

Maybe a manual inflate PFD is the way to go ???

Sad but True

Utah Lake appears to have reached its "Highest Water Mark" since 2011.

We're now slowly trending back down.

Park City Sailing Association is doing some pretty cool stuff.

Louise and I attended an impressive Autistic Sailing workshop up at Jordanelle State Park,

put on by Spectrum Sailing.

We hope Spectrum will consider bringing their program to Utah Lake in 2024.

Sushi eating sailor rescued after 3 months at sea.

After looking at the sky, Tuesday, July 19, 2023, and our radar apps, and paying attention to Windy Lookout, we decided to stay in our slip to do some chart work and knot craft practise. Glad we did.

Climate change real? Prove it!

How about a sailing vacation in Nelson, British Columbia?

Sail up the arm of the Kootenay, under the iconic Nelson bridge, to the wild beauty of Kootenay Lake (fijord finger lake).

While you're there, go for a soak in Ainsworth Hot Springs. They have a great "cold" pool if you like getting numb.
