Homage to Dick Wagner

How we met Dick Wagner

Bonneville's roots came from this one-of-a-kind wise and giving mentor.

When Louise and I decided to start a sailing school as a retirement project back in 2007, we traveled to the San Diego Maritime Conference for ideas. I attended a lecture, presented by Mr. Wagner, Founding Director of the Center for Wooden Boats, Seattle (Lake Union), Washington. This was a life changing event, a career changing symposium, a Karma changing happening....all my maritime molecules were re-arranged. I became a born again sailor.

Right after the San Diego Maritime Conference, Louise and I were able to have a quiet moment with Dick and to our surprise, he invited us to come up to the Center for Wooden Boats to "talk shop". We would return annually to CWB, very much like a pilgrimage, to learn business models for a sailing school, but mostly he taught us to believe in ourselves and what we wanted to accomplish. Share the joy and passion of sailing with others.

Sounds like someone else was impacted by Dick Wagner.

The story of Center for Wooden Boats

The Wagner Education Center
A magnificent monument to the tireless work of a great man.
It all started with a couple of row boats and some vision.

Thank you Dick for your friendship, mentoring and legacy with our little sailing school here in the desert. Your friends, Todd and Louise.

Sounds much like words Dick Wagner would leave with us to ponder on...

Are you living in the house with your family, but you're not connected? Are you engaged, living well, making the most of the moments? Or are you in tomorrow, hoping you'll get the contract, worried about your business, wondering how your finances are going to work out? Are you in yesterday, upset over a disappointment, bitter over who hurt you? You're missing the beauty of this day. Once you live this day, you can't get it back. The people in your life are not always going to be there. Don't wait until they're gone to recognize what you have. Don't take for granted all the good things in your life right now. Get connected. Take time for the people God has given you.

There will always be more work, more challenges, and more problems to solve. the dreams will come to pass in due season. The problems will resolve in God's timing. Worrying about them doesn't make them work out any sooner.
Stay in the moment with the people you love. Enjoy where you are.

Spring is in the air.
