Unusual call for "Flying Dutchman" Search in USA

Published on March 29th, 2023

With the 2024 Flying Dutchman World Championships to be held in the USA, the United States Flying Dutchman Class Association (USFDCA) is attempting to track down all existing Flying Dutchman sailboats, and in particular the more modern composite boats.

The USFDCA has received inquiries as to the availability of modern composite Flying Dutchman, so its goal is to locate these boats, particularly Lindsay-manufactured Flying Dutchman, that may be considered for sale or perhaps available for charter.

The class association would also like to update its current register to notify existing owners of Flying Dutchman about the regatta. The exact event dates have yet to be finalized but is to be held at the St Petersburg Yacht Club around March 2024 in St Petersburg, Florida.

A great way to check weather down at the Provo Marina.
Click on our WEATHER link on our home page menu bar
and select Provo Marina.
Sponsored by the  Utah Water Ski Club.

Watch real time weather action down at the marina by going to our weather page and selecting "Provo Marina". Hey, who stole our boats and the docks?

We kind of missed the beginning,
so now we can do a new countdown...
The End of Spring is just 78 days away.

Speaking of cold weather...
what's the story on Helly Hansen?

Everyone is fascinated by iceberg videos.
Ya gotta see this one...but it's a little strange.
First of all,
I recommend muting the sound,
and find your own iceberg music...or just watch in silence.
And select Full Screen for some wow factor.
The ending is just black screen. No conventional ending.

I'm not familiar with Hutting Yachts.

Speaking of strong aluminum yachts...

The aluminum "dog house" atop Bay Bea's red hull, was a later addition by a Pacific Northwest owner who wanted to stay dry while sailing. Bay Bea was trucked down from Logan, (after migrating inland from Astoria, WA) sat for a few years in the weed patch overflow parking lot of ULSP, and finally got craned into dry storage where she now sits forlorn, reminiscing her challenges and triumphs on the stormy oceans of the world.

The SORC, Sparkman & Stephens designed, aluminum 49' Ocean Racing sloop
Bay Bea
is currently sitting on the hard, right here in the Utah Lake State Park dry storage.
If you've ever wondered about that big red boat across the parking lot,
as you come into the park, unbeknownst to most all who enter, a significant piece of Ocean Racing history has been forgotten, abandoned, neglected and is wasting away, right here at the Provo Marina. With a glorious past of long distance blue water racing, a book has been written about her exploits, by her late owner, the founder of Texas Instruments, Patrick Haggerty.
