Sailing Seminar, "Sailing the San Juan's with Derrick T". Lesson sign-ups. Regatta Boss needed.

Who Knew?

Winter Sailing Seminars return after a long hiatus.
Central Utah Water Conservancy District representative gave a very detailed and kind of mind boggling presentation on how water gets to Utah Lake, where it came from...and who can use it.

So who knew that Utah Lake is filled with water from the Colorado River (in-part)?

Follow the water trail:
Utah Lake water comes from Jordanelle Reservoir (mostly). Bypassing Deer Creek
Jordanelle Reservoir water comes from the Provo River Drainage Basin
Provo River Drainage water comes from the Colorado River (and other sources)

Which begs the question, where does the Colorado (originally named the "Grand River"), come from?

All this is orchestrated from a little room, located in the CUWCD building (kind of).

Our next Winter Sailing Seminar, Thursday, February 9, 2023, at 7 PM
Utah Lake State Park, Provo Marina,
will be presented by:
Derrick Therman
Family Sailing Adventure in Washington States beautiful San Juan Islands.

Line of sight navigation. Keep a sharp eye out for fast moving Ferries and rogue logs.

Sometimes it's nice to get off the boat and just explore.

Current Utah Lake water level: -4.56'
Snow pack level: 179%

Have you been thinking about taking sailing lessons?

Provo River to be diverted March 2, 2023.
Pretty sure there will be a public ceremony of some sort. Will keep you posted.

Work on the Provo River Delta marches onward.

Use this craft to navigate the new stretch of the Provo River,
or maybe emergency flotation for some other situation,
like surfing Nazare.

Bonneville is looking for a new Utah Lake Festival Regatta Boss.
There are already many wonderful volunteers in place who know the drills. But all these moving parts need a Regatta Boss. Someone with a bent for organizing cats & dogs... together.

Unfortunately, if that unusual, magical, sadistic person does not step up to the challenge, to orchestrate all the moving parts, the Utah Lake Festival Regatta WILL NOT HAPPEN, and we can sit around the docks, reminiscing about if only we had put a fresh coat of bottom paint on, we could have been first in our class for 2023.

The Utah Lake Festival planning committee will need a name by the end of this week to begin lining up ducks. If we don't hear from someone to head up the regatta, well...it's been fun gang.
