Several of our Bonneville students have discussed an interest in boat maintenance.
Since we've got a yard full of boats, there is a good chance we'll be offering plenty of boat repair/improvement projects this off season (weather permitting).

Maybe one of the more important projects would be an upgrade on our Catalina 27. Replacing the original "volcano" thru hull with a genuine bronze mushroom head Groco marine fitting. The original factory set-up has been known to fail. Can you imagine the repercussions of a 1/2" hole suddenly appearing in the bottom of your boat while out for a sail?
Learn about thru hull materials. Cleaning solvents. Adhesives. Sealants. Manufacturers. Costs. Hoses. Clamps. Bungs. Tools.
How did your boats bottom look after this years haul out? Join us for the never ending need to keep a clean and fast bottom. We will be sanding, applying a barrier coat and then bottom paint (an A-Z bottom job). There are some unusual cracks in the gel coat that will require repair. Not your usual bottom paint job. Remember, preparations are the key to any successful bottom paint job.
Weather will factor into how much work we can actually accomplish on any given day. Projects will begin after Thanksgiving, on November 29. Due to morning temps being freezing and below, work will start around 1Pm and go until 4:30 PM or thereabouts. Work schedules will start Tuesday November 29 and go thru Saturday, 1 PM - 4:30 PM. (First week). Give us a call (801-636-5204) to sign up. Limited space to 3 participants. First come - first served. Dress warm. We will supply protective overalls, tools and dust masks. Projects will be long and ongoing. We likely will not complete any project in one afternoon. Sanding the bottom of a boat can be physically demanding. Strong shoulders required!
Send me to Earth Heimdall. I've always wanted to test my sanding powers on those puny watercraft used on Utah Lake.
