What is PHRF handicapping?

What kind of weather should I expect?
According to Mark Twain.

Will there be swag?
Not as much as our last regatta...but still some good stuff.

Should I bring my own lunch?
Sea Scouts would like to provide box lunches at cost.  Bring your own otherwise.

What will be on the BBQ dinner menu?
BBQ ribs & chicken.mac and cheese, baked beans, cornbread, slaw, salad, desert,
Soda and Water.

Will there be a Utah Lake Festival going on the day of the regatta?
Sadly no. But then we've got the whole park to ourselves.

Is there a mast crane at the Provo Marina?
Yes. Bring a fully charged cordless drill, with an  3/4" socket and extension for quick mast stepping.

What will the water level be like for the regatta?
Let's keep an eye on it, but I feel confident our 4' draft boats should be fine.

Are there bathroom facilities at the park?
They are well maintained, clean and heated, in the visitors center.

Will there be food trucks in the park for lunch food?
Since there is no Utah Lake Festival, there will be no food trucks.

Can I buy extra BBQ tickets for friends?
Yes. They can be purchased when you register. Contact Louise (801-636-5204).
Don't wait till the last minute.
We have ordered food only for those who have already registered.

Can we launch drones to record the regatta?
FAA prohibits drones from flying within a 5 mile radius of the airport.
State Parks rules also prohibit drones within the State Park.

What about Algae Blooms?
Highly unlikely.
If frothy green slimy stuff appears on the waters surface, do not inhale or injest...just sayin'.

Can we slip our boats at the Provo Marina the day before and the day after the regatta?
TBA

Is there water and electricity at the Provo Marina?
Water only (hopefully).
The park is upgrading their water works right now.

Will there be a Skippers Meeting before the regatta?
Yes. 9:00 AM. Ice Rink Pavillion.

Will the regatta BBQ dinner be held at the Ice Rink Pavilion again this year?
Yes.

Will the Utah Lake Commission be sponsoring the regatta?
Yes. Thank you Utah Lake Commission.

How many boats competed in the last regatta?
27-30. A few boats were DNF (Did not finish)

Are there any Covid restrictions for this regatta?
Yes. Wash your hands after using the bathroom.

Will there be a Committee Boat & race officials?
Yes. We will be running the U.S. Sailing racing PHRF program.

What will the race course be like?
Triangular. 1 mile between pins. Large tetrahedron marks.

How many races will there be?
Weather permitting, 2 in the morning and 2 after lunch.
Racing will conclude at 5:30 PM for the BBQ dinner.

Will there be race course maps handed out at the Skippers Meeting?
Yes.

Are there any "Marine Hazards" that I should be made aware of?
If you are sailing down from Lindon at night, be advised the red flashing entrance buoy is inop.
The red & green jetty lights are both working however.
Hug the left side of the fairway as you enter the harbor entrance. Allow the green can buoy to pass close to your port side. An unmarked underwater obstruction is submurged just inside the  harbor entrance on your starboard, as you enter the harbor.
Do not sail between the green can buoy, and the north jetty when entering or leaving the harbor.

Do I need a VHF radio?
It really helps with race information and on-the-water emergencies.

I would like to bring my boat down to the Provo Marina, the night before the regatta.
Any special instructions?
TBA

Is there a deadline for regatta registration?
May 27, 2022

Is there a web page for all this information?

I don't think I will race this year...but I would like to volunteer as a helper. What can I do?
