Sailing Smorgasboard. Cottage Meeting #7 Sailing in the Canadian Gulf Islands

Celestial Navigation, Sailing, Cottage Meeting to be Offered

A great opportunity to learn the ancient art of navigating by sun and stars.
April 1, 8, 15, 22,  2021
   7:00 - 9:00 PM

Doug Hendricks, a USCG-licensed 100 ton-Master with more than 35 years of sailing experience, will be your instructor.  He has sailed across the Atlantic, the Pacific, and the Indian oceans.  He has sailed in the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, Tahiti, Indonesia, Thailand, Hawaii, Africa and the Bahamas in addition to many years of sailing along both the east and west coasts of the U.S.  He has taught both Offshore Passage Making and Celestial Navigation for Bonneville School of Sailing since 2008.

New this year, 2021,
Bonneville has been putting this one together for years now. Finally the stars are aligned (celestial navigation pun here). Learn what's involved to charter a boat in a spot that you've only dreamed about. Bonneville's
Pre-Charter Course was designed to help you attain that dream. Learn the ropes on how to research, plan, reserve, provision, run a check list, assign crew duties, diesel engine basics, wheel steering at the helm and finally cast off those dock lines and sail away on a beautiful Catalina 270, wing keel. Your experienced world traveler and skipper, Mike Harmer, will take you out on Utah Lake (which, incidentally has the very same dimensions as the Sir Francis Drake Channel, British Virgin Islands), as a warm up mini cruise for your soon-to-be sail in beautiful Caribbean waters. Get inside stories, advise and recommendations for pre-sailing in one of the most endearing places on Earth.

Finally... we have a boat for you to rent.
The fancy word is "charter", but just so folks understand, if you have gone through Bonneville's Intermediate sailing course, you are eligible to (confidently and safely) charter this Catalina 25, wing keel, diesel inboard (this is a rare factory model) for a 3 hour (minimum) sail, half day sail, or full day sail charter. The boat has been in covered storage for 7 years, making this a true rare find. Your personal "escape pod" awaits.

THIS IS THE YEAR I LEARN TO SAIL!

Cut this out and put it on your fridge
We're waiting to meet you, and look forward to sharing our sailing knowledge with you.
Let's get this party started!

This course was exactly what we were looking  for and gave us a great understanding of boat handling and has made us excited to take the next step on our goal of chartering and hopefully getting our own boat someday! Todd was great and answered all our questions - A great resource in all things sailing!! Would recommend this course without reservation! Melissa

I came into the Learn to Sail course with zero knowledge of sailing and after 6 lessons, Bonneville turned me into a sailor! Mike

Bonneville Sailing was a fantastic experience for me as a beginner with no prior experience on a sailboat. I now feel confident that I could sail alone and am very excited to continue learning and loving the sport. Jennifer
