For some reason, local media beat the "algae bloom" drums loud and clear for Utah Lake.
So far, I have not encountered anything close to the bloom illustrated above on Lake Erie.
Algae blooms are not exclusive to Utah Lake...or any lake for that matter.
Nutrient loading is a real problem around the globe.
So why pick on Utah Lake???

VHF 16 might save your life.

(But ULSP does not monitor VHF 16).
Could have used VHF 16 last Saturday, around 4 PM, when lightning and very strong winds caused panic and boat knock downs at the Provo Marina and Lindon Marina.
Over the years, each sailing season I have encountered around 6 major wind storms that could be considered "life threatening". You really don't want to be out there when these storms produce between 30 - 50+ knot winds. Channel 16 could be used as an early warning alert or locate stranded boaters much faster than the current response, using 911.
