We are looking for a suitable structure to house the newly approved 501(c)3 non-profit organization “New Horizons Maritime Center”. The mission statement of NHMC reads:
New Horizons Maritime Center provides maritime educational opportunities to at risk youth, as well as the general public. Using a unique curriculum of practical and hands on applications, new skills are fostered opening doors to self-confidence and new levels of achievement.
We will begin restoration of our Star Fleet as soon as we can. Your contribution of time, materials or donations would greatly benefit our Wasatch Front youth. If you have any leads, ideas, or suggestions for a place that could house several boats please let us know.

Utah Lake makes the news
Utah Lake State Park signs warn of
"LOW WATER LEVELS".
Signs are great...but
They just don't fix the problem!
So . . . lets do something about it.
Here is a sample from one of the many letters that have been sent in so far. Please put a few sentences in your own words and send it off to the list below.
Representative . . .
My name is . . . I am an avid sailboat enthusiast who rents a slip at the Utah Lake State Marina. I have been here for three years and have enjoyed the fine amenities that the State provides us as a Sailboat Community. I know that you realize how valued this facility is to each of us and want to thank you for the support you have extended to us.Thank you so very much for the appropriations for the new docks that were constructed this year- they were badly needed!
I wanted to bring an item of concern to your attention. As you know, the water levels in Utah Lake are significantly lower this year. My family and I sail out of the State Marina at least once a week where the channel presently is about 2.5 feet deep! We are lucky that our sailboat has a retractable keel and can still make it in and out, though our rudder drags along the muddy bottom a bit. Many of our fellow boat owners are not so lucky. A significant number of sailboats have fixed keels that require approximately 4 feet of water to exit and reenter. But once all of us exit the Marina, I, with my family and the many friends and guests we entertain, enjoy many hours of brisk winds, picturesque scenery, and the extraordinary sunsets of this inland sea. It is truly a treasure worth preservation! My request to you is that you and your colleagues might seriously consider dredging the Marina so that the depth in the Marina continues the same as that of the Lake. As a Sailboat Community, we have been in discussion with the Utah Park Rangers, Reed Price of the Utah State Park Commission, Utah State Risk Management, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers about finding solutions to this reoccurring problem. I hope you will take a look at the wonderful facility provided our community by this great State and rally your fellow Legislators to continue to enhance and improve the State Marina so it can be enjoyed more fully- throughout the entire season!
