THOREAU REMEMBERED
June 1817 - May 6, 1862, Henry David Thoreau may just have inspired our sea-going readership to pursue that simpler life and connect to the environment. Thoreau was likely a sailor at heart, or at the very least, sympathetic, as he penned these ideas:

"I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practise resignation, unless it was quite necessary. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartan-like as to put to rout all that was not life, to cut a broad swath and shave close, to drive life into a corner, and reduce it to its lowest terms, and, if it proved to be mean, why then to get the whole and genuine meanness of it, and publish its meanness to the world; or if it were sublime, to know it by experience, and be able to give a true account of it in my next excursion."
                                 — Henry David Thoreau, Walden, "Where I Lived, and What I Lived For"

THE BAYOU TECHE WOODEN BOAT SHOW
Check it out. Gets me craving some Etouffe, Muffulettas and Rice and Beans.

INTRO TO RACING
May 16, 2013

If you have a cholesteral number higher than 175, (from eating too many Muffulettas) we've got a natural remedy to clean out those blocked arteries.  Try our adrenalin pumping Intro to Racing experience, coming up May 16.  If this video gets your heart thumping, you need to come sailing with us (and maybe lower those LDL's)

NEW DOCKS ???????
There are rumblings about, that the secured docks at Utah Lake State Park are on a short list with two other state run marinas, to get new docks. You might want to dust off your old volumns of Thoreaus discourses on Civil Disobedience, and let your Legislator know how you just about broke your neck the last time you walked out on the north dock. Take a picture and send it in to our  appointed officials, detailing your first hand experience with the flexing corrugated tin and broken concrete patch job on our docks.  Docking Lesson from Captain Ron.

CURRENT UTAH LAKE WATER LEVELS
I hate even thinking about it, since we just started our sailing season, but there's talk around the docks (that are falling apart) that this may be a short season, due to dropping water levels. Don't let you're bucket list of taking sailing lessons this year, go down with the water levels.

SUMMER SAILSTICE

Friday & Saturday, June 21-22
Join us for our annual social sail, on the longest day of the year, Summer Solstice, to Pelican Bay Marina, Saratoga Springs, spend the night and sail back to our home ports on Saturday. Last year we had some pretty spectacular fireworks to watch through the night (Saratoga was evacuated because of a huge mountain fire). Although we can't promise that again, we can guarantee a really fun get together. Sailstice participants are eligible to win some great prizes. Registration
information coming soon.
