More Boat Festivals, Intro to Racing, Chartering Qualifications?

INTRO  TO  RACING  -  MAY 16th

Join us as crew on our next Intro to Racing day on May 16th.  Enjoy the thrill of sailing on an Olson 30.  No experience needed.

Some of our feedback from last week's newsletter on the Port Townsend Boat Festival prompted the idea to ask you,

WHAT  IS  YOUR  FAVORITE  BOAT  FESTIVAL?
Doesn't have to be big, expensive, famous or long running. But it could be. Tell us about your favorite festival and why you like it so much. Let's get out there and do as Ratty would profess:

"There is nothing-absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats".

Jim and Cheryl are long time festival attendees of the

 Mystic Seaport Festival - June 28-30, 2013
They visit yearly and consider it the best ever!

Charelston Race Week has a cool video (turn down your sound . . . just my opinion), and some great insights on racing, heavy weather sailing and FUN. Hopefully, this will get you psyched for this year's USA Keelboat Regatta on Utah Lake, June 8, Provo Marina. Stay tuned for more info.

EARTH DAY!
What a magnificent place we live on.

CHARTERING  QUALIFICATIONS
Want to charter a boat in some far away paradise?
No problemo . . . according to this month's May Sail Magazine write-up on Captain Credentials.

"Once you arrive at the charter base, you may have to prove you can skipper a boat. Some companies will study your resume, give you the keys and say, "Enjoy!" Others, like Desolation Sound Yacht Charters, require charterers to take an online navigation test to comply with Canadian law. Some like CYOA, take you on a test sail to see if you can set and strike the sails, tack and gybe, moor and keep your cool."

We get the "certification" question frequently, and although we do offer certification that is recognized by Moorings and Sunsail, the "myth breaker" is that you really only need a sailing resume and qualifying experience. That's our philosphy at Bonneville . . . and we give you more hands-on stick time than any other sailing school out there. The more time you have actually sailing a boat . . . the more able and qualified you become.

IDEAS  REQUESTED
The Utah Lake Commission has asked us . . . to ask you, what improvements you would like to see made to Utah Lake. And maybe what you would not like to see  (like a bridge perhaps?).
Send your wish list to:
info@bonnevillesailing.com and we will bring your comments to our upcoming meeting with the commission.
